Baroque Suite, This Thurs @ IHouse

Alex Tyson is a good friend of the Radlands tribe, and I encourage all to come check out his recent film collaboration, Baroque Suite this Thursday at the International House in West Philly, 7pm,complimentary food and bevs.

“Baroque Suite is a composition that invites the audience to “listen to image” and to “see sound” in five synesthetic movements. The formal structure is guided by the traditional Baroque Suite: a set of musical movements as exemplified by Western European composers from the early 18th century. This Baroque influence also extends to the film’s content; references to idiomatic musical gestures and painting techniques as well as common Baroque subjects/aesthetics are all present.”

Hurricane Styrene

Everyone knows the potential destructive power of hurricanes, but few people are aware that storms like Hurricane Irene encourage growth of psychedelic mushrooms. According to Dr. Casey Simon, an addiction expert based in Orange County, Calif., hurricanes create the perfect climactic conditions for the mushrooms to grow.

“Mushrooms are spores and they multiply in moisture and are spread by wind,” he told HuffPost Weird News.

Stay Wild

Off to the shire for the weekend. Stay Wild Philadelphia (and the rest of you too)

I leave you with a shredding track from Olympia Washington’s Milk Music. These guys are no gimmicks, fuzzed out garage punks, like if J Mascis grew up in Olympia, he’d hang with these guys.

Camp Vibes-Magic Tarpit

I really diggin whats going on over at Poler. Clean, classic, minimal outdoor aesthetic for tents, bags and clothing. Plus they have a killer group of people backing the brand. Portland Oregon rules. I need to scoop their “Magic Tarpit” for rainy nights around the fire.

As they describe it, “It’s like a tarp mated with a swiss army knife. It has the spirit of all great half breeds (ligers, wholphins. growler bears) trapped within it’s soul.” I hit camp in 1 week…shit. Better get expedited shipping.
